Some of the key priorities underpinned by 2007-2008 Abu Dhabi Agenda and the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 revolve around making Nationals more prevalent in the private sector, as well as boosting SME’s contribution to the GDP by supporting and developing entrepreneurship amongst the Emiratis.
While Emiratis are generally positively embracing entrepreneurship, it’s worthwhile noting that 82.5% hold another full-time job; a phenomenon directly related to some major challenges – particularly the lack of risk-taking mentality, cultural issues, educational, innovation and financial barriers.
On the other hand, a very proactive Government support has created a strong SME & E infrastructure that consists of wide spectrum of facilities available for the Emirati entrepreneurs to utilise. However, the biggest challenge is a disconnect that creates an unproductive gap between these entities and the aspiring entrepreneurs.
